A little stumped
 

I have noticed the last couple of times out that I am getting heated water in the cold water line on both the kitchen and bathroom sinks. In otherwords- turn on the cold water and you get hot water at first. Let it run and it clears, eventually. Without jumping into things and tearing them part- anyone have an idea how this could be happening? I assume the hotwater lines are direct to the hotwater heater and the cold is direct to the fresh water tank. I have NOT been using direct city water- just using the pump from fresh water tank.

Rick, the only thing I can think of is the winterizing valves are not set right. These are two valves that are supposed to bypass the hot water tank when you add antifreeze.

In the winterizing position, I THINK they are both vertical. In the normal position, they are both horizontal. (I may have these reversed - my manual is not handy, so check yours.) Possibly, if only one of these valves is set to the normal use position, you might get the problem you describe.

Good idea, Jack. I had bypassed hotwater heater when the drain plug blew last tme out. Fixed that but you may be right n that I possibly screwed up when resetting the valves. However, I think mine were different for some reason so I'll have to see if t is in my manual. But, that makes sense. Thanks.

When the oblong shaped handles are going in the direction of the water line, the valve is open. When vertical of the water line (forming a X), they are closed. Don't ask me how I know. :D

You're right Bob, and, I think I know how you know and suspect I've learned the same way.

These valves are on T-intersections, as I recall. And, the piping is a bit complicated in that region. I've not tried to figure out the flow direction there because of that.
