Replacing old fresh water tank in 78
They say i can sanitize the fresh water tank in my 78 but i was thinking of just putting a new one in then i know its safe to drink from. The previous owner didn't use the tank for years. So i'm unsure of how scumming it is inside & i sure am tired of having to waste space carrying bottled water when i could at least carry some in the tank. I think its a 6 gal. tank in my camper , but i'm not sure.I went dry camping for 2 weeks and used 20 gal. of drinking water between me & my dog.So i was wondering if anyone out there knows how big a tank i can upgrade to if i can? Will a bigger tank throw the camper out of balance or anything ? Can i put one in as big as the space under the seat allows or do i need to replace it with the same size tank? one more question any suggestions on where to look for the tank i'd need?

Anyway, I'd do a Google search for "RV fresh water tanks". I wouldn't worry too much about going to a somewhat larger tank if it would fit. Increasing the tongue weight by a couple percent is not going to hurt anything as long as your tow vehicle can support the increase. And, since the freshwater tank is in the front, it will mostly effect the tongue weight. - Jack |
Fresh water tank.
You can call Mantelli trailer sales and Steve in service or Jay in parts would be able to answer all your questions. (716) 625-8599. Maybe the price of a new one will make you want to sanatize the one you have. Let us know how it all turns out.

I would bet that you have a 20 gallon fresh water tank and a 6 gallon water heater. The 1977 brochure shows 20 gallons on all models.

I don't think it would be too hard finding a replacement tank. Check the demensions of the old tank, keeping in mind you don't want it hanging too low. Depending on the location of your tank, you will add more water weight and therefore have to adjust where you place items inside the trailer to compensate for the extra weight.
