Replacing water lines.

I need to reroute the water supply lines to the kitchen and bathroom. The lines now are made with a gray somewhat flexible plastic and are marked ASTM D 3309 SDR 11. I found CPVC pipe with the same designation, but it is larger in diameter and not the same material.

Does anyone know where I can find replacement water line and elbows to fit it.

Thanks. Rick

Rick,
Usually the water lines are pex lines. They can be purchased at Home Depot. You can get red pex to designate hot water lines and blue pex for cold water lines. Get Shark Bite fittings to connect the lines. They require no soldering or crimping. I have made water repairs in several units using the pex and Shark Bite fittings.

The grey piping you see is called QUEST pipe.
Many law suits over its use. Mostly used in mobile/manufactured homes. Quest and it's fittings don't handle hot/cold expansion well with out leaking over time.

Pex is different, but is what you want to replace Quest with.

Do NOT make any fitting placement where a turn will occur.
Shark Bites work great but alignment for no drip requires use of fittings to make turns if tight.

I always have a piece of Pex and some fittings in my trlr. Cheap and easy.

And I was a plumber

Thanks for the input.

The reason I got into this situation is that I am replacing the evaporator fridge that came in my camper with one of those small dorm style units. It fits under the counter but was sitting on top of the plumbing and wiring, which I decided to relocate. Space is tight and I will need to make two 90 degree turns to go around the fridge, so I guess I will need to use the CPVC and elbows that I have already purchased.

I went to Northeastern Plumbing Supply in Elkton and they told me that the plastic pipe in my trailer has not been in production for a number of years (my trailer is 25 years old). Come to find out I was looking at the wrong numbers anyway. The outside diameter on the original pipe was 1/2 inch but the inside was 3/8. The CPVC pipe I bought (smallest they had at HomeDepot is 1/2 inch inside diameter and actually 5/8 on the outside. The original pipe is a kind of plastic that must be secured with a compression ring (can't glue it). Northeastern found a slip on pressure fitting that will work (not Sharkbites, but something similar). It will let me transition from 1/2 OD to 5/8 OD without using glue. I'm going to go ahead and cut and glue the parts using the CPVC and when the fittings come in Monday afternoon I'll just slip them on. Problem solved! (I hope).

Next time something like this comes up (and no sharp corners are involved) I'll know to use the Pex and Sharkbites.
