Air Conditioning Power Feed Part 2
 

I have a similiar question regarding this topic of feeding the correct power to a HI-LO for the air conditioning unit. I am a new and proud owner of a 1992 HiLO-195L. I am keeping it at a marina yard where I also keep my boat. I have an adaptor on the end of the Hi-LO plug so that I can connect it to a regular extention cord. Because of the distance I have to use two cords. On the end of the extention cord I have another adaptor to that converts a 110v to the 30amp connector that is used for boats (circular pattern connectors).

As I am testing the my new HI-LO everything seems to be working ok except the air conditioning unit does not turn on at all, not even the fan. I can understand the air compressor not turning on but this unit acts as if it is not receiving any power at all. The dealer (in another state) swears that the air conditioning worked (I did not see it working when I bought the unit as he had it in the yard with no power connected).

I am hoping that because I am not feeding this HI-Lo real clean 30amp power that the air conditioning is just not turning on at all. The only way I can test the unit is to take it to a camp site and plug it into a real power connector. Any thoughts anyone?

you have to plug the a/c in mine is in the bathroom my trailer is a 99 my friend has a 88 it plugs in out side

Is the A/C unit plugged in? The plug-in for my 2207T is in the bathroom. There is a 3-pronged polarized plug, on a cord, behind a cover in the upper half of the camper, to the left of and above my sink. This cord plugs into an outlet that is mounted in the bottom half of the camper but is not real obvious as it is hidden behind the closet.

Do not try running the A/C with that hookup it is good way to burn up the motor. You can try the fan to see if it is getting power but that is all you should do.

that is right with not enough power it will not work properly, just try the fan..

If you are using one of your existing extension cords which most probably is a 16/3 or 14/3 wire you will loose some of the voltage on it's way to your AC, due to the resistance of the wire (loose plug connection will add to the loss). A 30 Amp load demands a 10/3 wire which can be obtained from: 10/3 Gauge 30 Amp - NEMA 5-15P to NEMA 5-15R - Extension Cord or your local hardware store (maybe).

North Central PA covers a large area and I just wondered if you were anywhere near me. I used to go to Montoursville for PennDOT surveyors meetings back in the early 90's and we go through that way when we go to visit in Bradford Co. I am glad that you live in the Marcellus Shale area so you can enjoy the activities that go with it. It is just getting going here in Venango Co., the first well is being drilled about five miles from home, and is underway in Clarion Co. where we own our camping getaway.

yeah Montoursville is only about 6 miles or so from here. very nice little town, i would love to live there.
yup the gas well are big business around here. trucks are everywhere.
hotels are full, business is good.
bad thing is, rent has shot up so no one can afford a decent apt. anymore.

I have a 2292 Funchaser. At the left front storage port of the trailer there should be electrical cords supplied with the camper. There should be two heavy cords, one is a land line supply cord and the second is the power cord for external ac connection that is located above the kitchen window. The connection plug should be a 30 amp 120v. Hope this helps.

"New" HiLo owners need to know that the a/c unit is not hardwired in the trailer. This apparently is an oversight from the selling party, be it a dealer or private individual. Depending on the year and model, the a/c plug ins are located in different locations as noted by the previous messages. My 1995 22' HiLo had the plug in by the wardrobe in the rear bathroom. My current unit, 2001 29' HiLo, has the a/c cord in an overhead cabinet in the rear bedroom. I pull it out from the bottom of the cabinet and plug it into the 20 amp GFI outlet that is located on the rear bathroom wall at the floor. My bathroom is midship. Just thought I would add my two cents to this.
