Battery removal for winter storage
 

I would really like to know how you go about removing the battery before lowering the top and putting the camper away for the winter. What is the proper procedure for doing this? My camper is stored in my garage (one of the many great Hi-Lo features) during the winter but not removing the battery is one thing that has always bugged me.

I have 2 Hi-LO campers i have to ready for winter and I lower the upper half 1/2 way and then remove the battery then hook up the battery jumping cables to the battery and other end to the cables on the camper then lower it that way. :)

I drilled a large hole in bottom of battery tray and run the battery wires through it for pre winter/spring battery connections with battery on ground. See kengsr post at following link.

Will it still raise and lower with the battery removed as long as it is plugged
in to shore power???

I do not know if it would or not I have not tried that yet.

Shore power won't raise the top. The battery puts out many amps more than the 12 converter that is used to recharge the battery.

X3! But, if you can kill all "vampire draw" from the battery, it should last through the winter if it's a healthy battery. I found the TV/CD/DVD player in mine was constantly pulling power, even with everything off. I installed a simple "on/off" rocker switch in the power line for that thing and I found my battery did fine over the winter when it was left connected.

Now though, since I've run shore power underground to where I have the trailer stored, I just keep the battery connected to a Battery Minder all the time - it pulls about 18 Watts, and some of that is simply loss in the Watt meter I have attached and in the 100' of underground wiring.
