Inverter fan runs continuously
 

Changed out a cooling fan on the inverter. It does’t shut off. Any idea where to go from here?

Camper, I moved your thread to the electrical section because I think you'll get more help here rather than in the "forum suggestions" section.

Are you possibly talking about the AC/DC converter that's in the HiLo to change shore power to 12V DC and also charge the batteries? An "inverter" changes 12V DC to 120V AC power, and HiLo rarely put those in trailers, although there were a few that had them.

What kind of cooling fan did you install, was it an identical replacement for the one that you took out?

You are correct. It is the Elixir Power Converter : ELX-45. There are two cooling fans. One appears to be an intake, the other exhaust. I found a 30 amp blown fuse on the left fan. I replaced the fuse and then the fan would not turn unless I gave it assist. I replaced it with the same model. The fan does not shut off and I’m afraid it will discharge the battery. I have no idea what starts the fan. Thank you for responding

That's the same converter that I replaced. I doubt the 30A fuse was for the fan. I think it's one of two that are in the charging circuit that are supposed to prevent a reverse charging current on the battery.

I wonder if the fans stay off if you are not connected to shore power? I really didn't pay attention to the ones in mine and don't know if they were always on whenever I was plugged into shore power. They are there to control heat buildup in the charging circuitry. If they are only on when you are plugged into shore power, they won't discharge the battery, since it is being charged then. And, if this is the case, they may only be on if the battery is receiving a heavy "absorption" charge. Your battery may be in a low charge state, if the 30A fuse was blown.

However, if they run when you are disconnected from shore power, then you WOULD be discharging the battery and they should not be on then. Let me know about this, please.
