This is so super weird! Yes, plugged in to house. All works and lifts with battery in it. No house power, no nothing. This is all totally crazy.

That really suggests to me that the wiring has been altered. There are wiring diagrams in the manuals, and the basic wiring wasn't functionally different over the years. If you can read those diagrams, you might be able to figure out what's going on.

If not, I suspect you will have to take it to someone who knows how to make it right. J&R should be able to help you.
