Keeping the battery charged

1 Attachment(s)
Several years ago I found out the hard way the importance of keeping a battery charged. Letting the battery run down is very hard on it and shortens its life. If the battery goes dead in cold weather it will freeze and swell, the swelling will break connections inside of the battery and you'll be buying a new one when its time to go camping.

There are of course several ways to keep your battery charged, I chose to add a battery tender to mine. I also have a Master battery cut off switch on it to protect against any parasitic drains. So when our Hi-Lo isnt in use I turn the master battery switch off and connect the battery tender to it. The battery tender is a trickle charger that monitors the battery and charges it as needed.

Keeping your battery charged greatly increases the life of the battery, prevents it from freezing and when your ready to go camping... the battery is ready to go too!

Battery replacement

Today I did my spring maintance on my trailer witch included replacing the battery, sealing the windows, lights, roof sealsnt looks good and lubed the lift system.

My battery was a 5 year battery an it was 8 years ago I installed it. I desided I have pressed my luck long enough. When I tryed to remove the bracket that held the battery in place the nuts would not budge. The bracket broke when I tryed to remove the nuts.

To prevent this from happening I sugest you spray the nuts and threads every time you lube the gide rod and lift system. hopefuly this will keep a 5min job from taking over 2 hours.
