New discovery- wires

So- on my 2201 TL- behind those little cabinet doors in the front above the couch- where some photos of other campers show a clock---I have two wires coming through a little hole in the front wall near the top. They are capped. Is this, do we think, for hooking u p a radio or clock or some such device? They are even with the center support in the center of the cabinet so it is hard for me to casually get a look at what color they are. They had been covered by a piece of masking tape- of all things. By the way- what does everybody else use those long, narrow, shallow, angled cabinets for?

Thanks everyone

Rick

Mystery wires

Post a picture of the wires.

Most likely prewire for the optional AM/FM/CD Stereo. I never saw a clock option in a Towlite.

"Post a picture of the wires. "

Sam

Don't know if I can get a camera up in there, at least I don't have one of those little hand-helds and my wife's SRL-digital won't squeeze in there. Its just two little wires with caps on them---- two tiny holes towards the top of the cabinet. My guess is , I guess, for a stereo. That makes sense to me if that was offered and that is the spot where they put them. I will try to get a meter on them next week and see if I have current. Anyone know what the radio-CD players looked like or the brand? Were they automotive types? That would be a handy place to put one- then i guess I could store CDs along with the beach towels in the cabinets. :)

Thanks-

HillTool,

We just went outside and looked in the cabinet. We have the same 2 wires covered with masking tape securing them to the inside wall of the cabinet.

One wire is yellow, which is a 12V positive lead
The other wire is white, which is a 12V negative lead.

If you look at the brochure for the 2004 22ft Towlite, you will see the optional stereo/CD player that looks to be an automotive style. Once suggestion would be, if you were to install one, make sure it has a remote, so you don't have to crawl over the bed and spouse to turn it off.

Here is the link to the 2004 brochure in the reference library.

Putting in radio/cdplayer or is it dvd player

I'm glad you found out what the wire is for sure. ,It is my understanding that the radio/cd player that was offered with the towlite/classic was some weird off brand and not of very good quality. So you are better off shopping around for one you like.

Use for long narrow angled cupboards

In our Classic model I roll and stuff my daughters tops and shorts in this odd shaped space.

Gee- I didn't want anyone to have to go out and check. But thanks! This is really a terrific group and I appreciate one and all.

An nice automotive radio would be nice- especially one that had the jack for an mp3 player. I'm going to have to look into that.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't start another thread on "What do you stick in your front cabinets?". :)

The radio CD player in my 2209 is in the cabinet above the sink on the far left when standing in front near the bath divider. It is a Jensen auto type CD radio with a remote, the speakers are in the front cabinet, one on the far left and right. Antenna is on the wall outside where the radio is, mounted side ways.
The cabinets in the 95T were bigger and I was able to put a lot of my clothes in there, the cabinets in the 2209T are smaller and slanted which in my opinion was a dumb move on Hi-Lo's part. I now put my socks and under ware in there, and other msc. which falls out sometimes when you open the door, which causes a bad reaction.

one thing to remember, if you have a radio,cd,dvd player in the cabnet, don't pack clothes and towels around the stereo, it can overheat- possible fire hazard just a sugestion

I certainly agree that the slanted cabinets seem a little weird. I was thinking paperbacks or books at first----but those won't fit. And, yes, FLAMING UNDERWEAR would cause an even worse reaction.:o

I hadn't thought about the antenna---- I wonder if you'd have to run the ground down to the frame somehow. Also- that seems like a long run for speaker wires the way you say your's is mounted. On the other hand- it does seem to make the radio more accessible. I was thinking of a mount under my front cabinets on the port side up-front. Looks like that would clear when in the down position. But wait- you said in the front near the bath divider? Do you mean in front of the sinks- or is the bath in front on an 09?

Radio placement

I think it is time for a picture.

PopRichie77 04-17-2012 06:06 PM

My 2209T should be laid out the same as yours. Either I made a mistake, will look, or you read it wrong. Radio is factory installed and it has plenty of volume.
Standing in front of the sink.
I have been sick, but will get some pics tomorrow.

Radio placement

Have a speedy recovery. One day it is 82 and the next day it is 50.

hilltool 04-17-2012 07:11 PM

"when standing in front near the bath divider."

....So I was thinking "in front" like in the front of the trailer. I am sure that is NOT what you meant. I was just stretching things in my brain. Actually 10 or 15 feet is not that long a run for speaker wires depending on what size they are and I'm sure it doesn't cause any drop in performance. I was, sort of, just thinking out loud. I do that and then , often, immediately change my mind. :) But, if you have any idea WHERE they ran the wires , like behind something, I would be interested in knowing that.

thanks

Here are the pics of the radio in the 2209T. The wires for the speakers go up into the ceiling along with the light wires.

Here is the radio/cd player in my rig. It is an Audiovox and has performed great for the 11 years I have had the HiLo. The speakers are mounted by the sconce lights below the radio.
