Default Heater screeching

I purchased a well used 1991, 31ft. HiLo to leave on a property as a get-a-way. We have learned to ignor many of it's age-related shortcomings and have enjoyed many week-ends in it. With winter coming on, we need to address one problem that will determine if we can use it for the next few months. The first time we tried to use the heater it made such a racket that we had to turn it off. I looked under the sofa and at the unit from the access door on the outside but could see neither a way to oil the bearings nor remove the unit for service. Does anyone have experience with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the sofa is in the front like our 95 and has a plywood slide out to make in to a bed? You have to unscrew the plywood to get at the heater.

Default screeching heater

Thanks for the info. Have you pulled the unit out in the past? It appears that the blower motor is in the same frame as the gas burner. I'm not sure how to pull just the blower motor without messing with the gas unit. Are there manuals available anywhere?

See if any of these manuals have anything like your unit.

No, I never had to pull the heater, ours worked fine no problems, but I was under or in there for another problem, but it was clear that was the way to get at the heater also. Good luck with your repair.

Default Heater screech

PopRichie and RichR,
Thank you for your advice and forwarding the heater manuals. Looks like I have an Atwood Hydro Flame 8500-IV. I think I can go after this thing now. Not sure when I'll be able to get back over to the trailer but when I do I'll see if I can get the unit out and have it repaired.

Check the blower wheel , it may be bent or it has moved on the shaft causing it to rub on the housing. They should be a set screw on the wheel.
