Oven will not light

I can not keep the oven pilot lit. The instructions say to hold down the knob for 5 seconds until the pilot light remains lit but, no matter how long I hold it down, it will not stay on. The burners work just fine.

Check to make sure the pilot flame is touching the thermocouple tube. If it isn't adjust the position of the thermocouple tube. If that doesn't work, the thermocouple could be bad and needs replaced. That is what keeps the pilot lite, if it doesn't sense the flame, it shuts the gas off. Holding the button overrides the thermocouple until it is hot enough to keep the gas on. Get into your manual and check the troubleshooting section also.

Pilot Fix

Just learned a new trick. Attwood oven Model 33. Pilot would not light. After an internet search I found that Attwood had a mfg. problem. Due to a curve in the manifold the oven temp/pilot knob would hit face of control panel before it had fully depressed pilot function on thermostat. By adding paper or match stick pieces into knob before placing on shaft it allows knob to fully press shaft and walla we have fire.
Wanted to pass along this KISS theory for others.
Brad
