Default First Hi Lo trip 1980 memory lane..

There always seems to be a thing with bad weather and us getting a new camper. I remember driving to Butler in 1980 in the early morning hours, still dark, running up on an Amish buggy on the way to Butler to pick up our first Hi Lo. We spent the morning touring the factory, and then hitched up and pulled it over to the Mohecian (sic) state park to camp close by in case there were any loose ends that needing adjustment prior to heading back to NC. That night, the most violent thunderstorms we have ever been thru rolled thru the area. About 4 miles away, a tornado had touched down. Course, we were hunkered down in the Hi Lo, and I think we even let the top down due to so much wind. Finally, the storms broke, and morning gave way to nice sunshine, and we were getting to know Hi Lo for the first time. Came thru the hail and driving rain with no problems. No canvas to fold in like the pop up we used to have, how nice to have the hard side Hi Lo. They are great well built campers, I just hated that the slowdown in the economy ended such a long run. Long live the remaining ones!
Fond memories..

Hi JFB,

Thanks for sharing that great memory! WOW, what a first night! We don't live in tornado country, but it sounds like you had a good idea in lowering the top in those conditions.

Do you still camp with that 1980 Hi-Lo?

Jim
