Default National Park Senior Passes

The rumor about the Senior Passes going up to $80 sometime this year is TRUE!

We just went to a National Park to buy ours, and they are sold out, and may not be getting any more of the $10 Senior Passes. The Ranger said that the passes were supposed to have gone up to $80, but the company who prints them was not notified. He said that they have been out for quite some time, and many of the other parks are running out too. He wasn't sure if they would get anymore in before the rate increase. However, if you go on-line, as I just did, you can still get them for $20. The site shows $10 for the Pass, but upon check out it shows: $15 for the Pass, and $5 shipping and handling. I don't care how they slice it. I'm just glad that I got mine before it jumps to $80!

If there is anyone sitting on the fence about getting one--don't sit to long.

Yow! That's a huge increase. I got mine when it was $10, the first year they were offered.

Thanks for letting people know about this Papa!

We got one in my husbands name a number of years ago. But when we heard about this increase, we decided to get one in my name also. Stopped in at a Ranger Station a week or so ago and it was no problem getting one for $10. Some areas still have them apparently.

I got an email yesterday from AARP about this increase so apparently it's coming soon.

I got mine a couple of years ago also- as did my wife. I also thought the price increase seemed "outrageous" but a well traveled friend of mine, a birder as it were, pointed out to me that at 80.00 its still a pretty terrific deal and I have to agree. You get a lifetime pass for free or half price entry into all federally funded campgrounds, monuments, parks, etc, all for the cost of one night in a, likely, not-all-that-terrific-motel.

No. AS far as I know you cannot buy until you are 62, and not a day sooner.

I understand that some parks still have passes. However, the one close to us did not, so I ordered it on-line. However, it take 8-10 weeks, and I'm still waiting. https://store.usgs.gov

I just heard it announced on the morning news that it will go up next month. I still have not heard anything from my on-line submission. The site states that it will take up to 2 months to get my pass. Although I'm a little anxious to get it, I have a little comfort that they already charged my credit card.
