Utah high Uintas trip

Day one was an overnighter at Walmart in Elko NV, I'll spare you the scenery.

Day 2 taking a break at Argonite, Utah

Argonite appears very scenic, much more so than the Walmart!

Your rig looks to be set up perfectly. Where did you find the "hard" spare tire cover? I think I'd like that on my trailer, since the soft ones develop cracks pretty quickly.

I wish I could be more help but the spare tire cover came with the camper when I bought it.

Could be. I'll poke around online and see if I can find one (or, some to select from first).

Nice camping spot and even the outhouse has a spectacular view!

JackandJanet 07-14-2021 12:23 PM

Looks beautiful, camped among the Aspens! What's your elevation? That's the kind of camping we like to do - out in nature with no hookups.

I found several rigid spare tire covers, but they are all over $100. Think I'll stay with the soft kind.

The campground's just shy of 8,000 ft with ATV trails going to 12,000 plus.

Here's a shot looking down on the valley where the campground is:

Phase II of the trip, camping at my daughter's place. Full hookups and fresh eggs!

Even better than backyard camp outs!

Looks like the same tire cover that came on our 2307C. Two different 2007 factory brochures were with the trailer when we got it - same cover is shown on both TowLite and Classic models in the brochure photos, so maybe that was HiLo's standard cover during that period?

Jack, If you just want a hard shell cover for the spare, you might check local wrecking yards for a factory external spare cover from a 90's compact Japanese SUV. I had a one piece semi-rigid plastic cover from an Isuzu trooper (cost $20 at Pick & Pull) sitting around for a long time - wound up selling it to a guy with an Airstream for his trailer spare (the Isuzu lettering came off with a bit of warming from a heat gun).

The covers with polished stainless bands are still available new from 4 wheel drive parts places, but they're not cheap (about $300-350) and they're probably too big for a trailer tire. https://www.morris4x4center.com/boom...teel-ring.html)

Thanks, oldcar. I don't live anywhere close to a "recycle yard" and don't feel like driving 70+ miles to get to one, on the off chance that they would have the cover. I'll just stick with the soft kind. It works, just doesn't hold up for much more than 3 years.

Agree - way too far to drive just for that. Might be worth checking Craigslist's "auto parts" category occasionally for somebody local parting out an Isuzu trooper, Rav4, CRV or similar - could get lucky.

Lots of fires in NoCal. Smoke in Sacramento today. Stay Safe.

I had the hard spare tire cover on my 2009C when I purchased it from the factory. I'm not going to part with it BUT when i had a blowout on I-95, and put on the spare tire, the blown tire and rim would not fit the spare mount. Long story short, I threw the blown tire, stainless rim and cover in the back of the pickup until I could get a new tire. Since then, I've used a soft cover. Life is easier.

Jack, we tent camped up your way from Southern Ca. at Potatoe Patch Campground in Jerome Az last week, beautiful campground and wilderness. We did not take our HiLo; too long of a drive and too high an elevation for my older Ram 1500 to tow up that elevation (7,023 ft.)
My son and wife took their Winnebago Micro Minnie though.

JackandJanet 08-12-2023 09:42 AM

Jerome is a kinda interesting place, Angel. Tiny streets and sharp turns are a bit hard to drive in though. Did you visit the town at all? For those that don't know, a daughter of one of the leading citizens, Leonard Jerome, went to England, married there and their son was Winston Churchill!

Angel 08-12-2023 05:33 PM

Jack, yes we did visit Jerome. You're right the streets are very narrow and winding. We shopped and ate dinner there. Very interesting history to that little town!
