FYI - Draining water lines

Just an FYI:
I decided to do a bit of cleaning in my "basement", a storage space in the rear of my 27'er. Got it all cleaned out and followed the water lines in and out of the water heater. Never noticed the two open/close valves. A quick open and closing proved to me that these drained the water heater without pulling the drain plug. Since I live in southern Fla, I've only had to winterize once. Last year in NC.
I never stop learning things about Hi Los, no matter how many I've owned or worked on.
Line on the left in cold in line, and of course red is the hot out.

Those are actually intended to be the low point drains for the whole water system. They will drain the water heater but I would still drain the water heater by removing the plug and opening the pressure/temperature relief valve. That causes a rapid draining of the water heater which can flush sediment from the tank.

RichR, I'll still drain the way I have, pulling the plug. But, I was surprised I'd never noticed the dump valves before. "Basement" is clean though. Thanks
