Disk direction for satellite
Some time ago I posted a couple of questions concerning satellite TV. Thinking I would carry one of the house's receivers and a portable dish. Thanks for all the replies. I'm learning much about it and am hopefully close to having my mind settled on satellite TV for the Hi Lo.
My final questionis when you get to a campground how do you know what direction to point the disk? Understand from an answer in my previous post that you need clear direction to the Southern sky. Is that close enough or do your have more definite directional information? If so where do you get such information? Thanks God Bless Paps |
I have direc tv at my house and i believe the satellite is over texas- so it is SW for me. Often- there will be a "menu" item on the reciever/tv that it will tell you if you have lined it up correctly. I know the techs also carry little portable meters that allow them to align it correctly while they are next to the dish. I assume those are available for "RVers" as this is a growing market and they surely need those available to all the folks with portable dishes.

Your receiver should have a menu that guides you on-screen with the setup. You enter the zip code where you are located and the azimuth and elevation will be calculated and displayed. You will need a pocket compass to rough aim the dish and the elevation angle scale should be marked where the adjustment screw is located. I found this on YouTube that may be close to what you need to do.

I had replied to your previous post and can help you with a Dish Network setup. I have no experience whatsoever with any others. If you settle on Dish Network, send me a private message so I can email you some attachments with more references. As I mentioned before, it can be aggravating but you do what is necessary for happy camping during football season! Bob |
