Jack Antenna Replacement Head on an AntennaTek
 

I replaced the head on my existing AntennaTek antenna with a Jack Digital HDTV Antenna Replacement Head. As you may know, the AntennaTek is similar to a Winegard, but it is not exactly the same. Moreover, Jack does not list the AntennaTek as being compatible with the Jack head.

After I installed the adapter bracket that came with the unit I noticed that the top was not sitting level. This was probably due to the slight geometry differences between a Winegard and an AntennaTek. I carefully bent the top of the bracket a little bit until it was level. Then I bolted on the Jack antenna head. I used the existing AntennaTek amplifier already installed in the RV; so no wiring changes were required.

The antenna works great. Just sitting in my back yard I can tune more TV stations than I could before.

That is good to know. I have been wandering about the compatibility of the Jack. Keep us posted on how it compares to the old unit. I have never seen an actual lab controlled comparison of the Jack with the other brands. There have been mixed opinions on the RV Forum.

One thing that many overlook is that the coax can degrade over time and cause signal loss to the TV. Moisture can get into the coax which can effectively cause a short. Replacing the existing coax with the best grade available and be sure to use good quality connectors and thoroughly seal out the chance of moisture getting into the connections.
