aerodynamics simulation

Found this. crude but interesting, some of the quality did not transfer to the simulation so there is extra turbulence, and maybe the trailer is too close to the TV…

Sorry to post a link to the evil youtube site. I try to use non anti-american links when I can….

I think in some the trailer hitch is drawn, but in two dimensions it represents something the full width of trailer, so should not be drawn in.
These vids would only represent what is happening at the center of the vehicle, as the edges the air might flow to the sides or act differently. You see the "aero" campers they try to pass off which are sero in two dimensions, but in real life they have sharp 90 degree corners from the front to the sides, therefore not very aero. Keep these in mind. Some vids are just wrong, but the air movement between the two behicles is the interesting part.

That's very interesting. Too bad they didn't get the behind the trailer flow, that low pressure area back there is a major source of drag (which I guess is what the by 16 wheeler "trailer tails" are trying to reduce).

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.

Yes, but the rear of the trailer is pretty well documented already, so the focus was between the two, which is not so well documented.
I would like to see more about the gap between.
I am now considering getting a high truck capper to make that wing deflector effect to get air higher off the back. I dont know how to make that wing hang over the rear bumper, but am working on ideas. I have roof rack mounts, just no rack, so imagine that will be a part of it.
Seems just driving with the rear window open does a lot.

You’re right about the effects they noted between the two - good stuff.
