cables replacement
Replacing cables on 1994 22hi-lo, all four cables I am replacing , have the top mounted on 4x4 each corner, what position should the hydraulic piston be in? All the way out or all the way in?

Hello, John -
This is just a guess, since I've never had to replace my cables, but I'd think the hydraulic ram should be in the "Top Up" position, since that's where the top sort of is. You'll still need to shorten the cables though, possibly, since the top is too far up. Actually, you should not have to have the top all that far up to replace the cables. You can get to the top pulleys if you have the interior trim pieces off of the lower half. Or, since it's up there now, you can thread the cables through all the pulleys, then lower the top to the normal lifted height before fastening the cables to the top half edges. That should get the cables close to the proper length. If you have the adjusting screws all the way in (so they'd slacken the cables), you should be able to tighten them enough to take the extra length out once they are installed on both ends. - Jack |
Thanks, i will let you know how it goes!! John
