Seriously, this does look intriguing. Also looks like it took some mega-major modifications to make it fit. I think its easier to haul a portable generator in your truck and haul it out only when needed.

Thanks for posting the pics. Don't think I ever would have believed it otherwise.

Besides the exhaust is coming out under the flip out so it could get inside real easy.

Don't know if that is a factory mount, but the factory did mount them on that side same way.

It looks like they chopped it into the siding with a hatchet, it probably isn't factory.
I'd take my time with it if I even attempted it. I don't have a tip out so that would not be a problem.
Mount it on isolators would help with any unwanted vibration :rolleyes:. eh hem....Jim.........:D

WOW, never new Hi-Lo offered a generator as an installed accessory. I'd like to see that! Hmm, wonder if it had the capacity to run the A/C?

Yes Hi-Lo did offer as an option a generator but I can't remember what the cost was for it anymore. Yes they did say it would run the air conditioner when I asked. It of course was a propane generator. We checked into it with the factory and talked with Tom & also talked to Greg at the old J&R before we purchased our Hi-Lo. Later we saw one with a generator at a campground and was told by the folks it ate propane so they didn't use it much but it came with their unit when they bought it.

This certainly does look like a do it your self install. Although this is exactly the generator model that Hi-Lo used. I just looked up my paper work that they sent me several years ago. The one we saw at a campground a few years ago had a generator and the install was a professional install by Hi-Lo factory and it looked very nice.

Have you looked into the generators at Home Depot? They look very similar to this. We purchased a 3600 Lifan generator from Home Depot this past year for 799.00 with free shipping. Don't know how much this one you're looking at cost. Ours runs our air conditioner and everything else in the unit.

$449 on Amazon. It is a propane genset I would like to keep my fuel supplies simple.

I fully understand the fuel thing keeping it simple 449.00 sounds like a good deal. I do believe we looked at one similar to yours in Northern Tool catalog which was propane also don't remember price though. Ours is gas.

I usually have my 20# bottle from the grille with me, I can use that and do the tank exchange thing here in Pa. not sure about your neck of the woods but it makes it easy to keep stocked in lp gas.

I believe the factory installed generator ran about $3500, far more that I would ever pay. I like the idea of a separate generator, then you can use it when or wherever you want. Minor home power outages, for example, or running power tools away from a power source.

Exactly how I used my generator a couple months ago. I needed to solder a wire in our low voltage lighting and it was over 100' from any house power source. Rather than string two long extension cords together, I just took my generator to the job. :cool:

You've got a good point there, and I'm not going to pay that much cash for a genset.

I saw a HiLo on the web site for Lazy Days in Florida. It had this hack job generator just like the picture in your post..We are hoping to soon purchase a portable generator.. That way hubby can use it to repair delaminated walls ect.as we are parked away from our home. We have many posts on the forum about generator types ect. Hopefully we can afford the gas to run them. Anybody have problems with a theft while using them camping. I saw a post om Mod my rv where a person fabricated a metal handle over the handle to prevent theft. The metal was very jagged to discourage theft.

I use a plastic covered cable and lock, they can be got at Wal Mart or other stores.
Prevents some one picking up my Honda 2000 and walking away.

I have a factory mount Onan 2500 on my 2004 27T. It is a bit noisy being mounted to the frame (even with rubber insulators) but it does the job when needed. Being mounted, allows it to be used anytime and anywhere with just a push of the starter/stop button inside the trailer. The generator outlet is mounted inside the electric cable box where the regular 30Amp cord can be plugged in while traveling.
I note that a lot of the RV'rs have portable Honda generators, which have a lower noise rating.

Does your genset run the AC?
