Installing roof A/C
 

SOme of you longer time fellows, recall I have the 5th wheel...

I believe someone took the roof air off, to install a side mounted heat pump, possibly because mine's taller than normal hilo's when down...

I had an opportunity, to find a used AC, and storage is not an issue (height wise for sure).

Some of you have had the AC off, will I be able to tell if the roof will hold an AC? I hope they built roof to have ac or not, but I know this might not be the case,

any thoughts?

The roof is strong enough to walk on, so it would support an a/c. Check the roof vent opening for 120v romex wiring. If it is there, it was set up for an a/c. If the wire ends appear to be "scarred", you know an a/c was hooked up and later removed. Good luck with your new project.

I was assuming that like other A/C's I read about on here that ther was probably a coiled cord that you had to plug in, instead of there being any wires ran to the "now just a fan in a vent" opening... this could change things.

I was contemplating how to get the power to the AC, since the cabin of this thing was completely rearranged, and the roof AC (if it ever had one) was deleted by the factory...

I really want to put this AC above my bed, lol, since I was going to have to run a wire to a plug in anyhow, i thought, it would be right close to the big old cable we plug into service this way...

Hey Sting, here's a McGyver Idea. go ahead and take out the vent and check and see if you can hold your own weight on the roof support by placeing a 2x4 crossways on the roof, and after doing that and all goes well, install the air unit and instead of running all the wiring just install a power cord to the nearest electrical outlet that only feeds itself off the power source.:D

The outlet in my trailer for the a/c is a 20 amp GFI outlet. The other 110v outlets in the trailer are 15 amp outlets.
