Low voltage, camping right now.

Help, I am camping right now and my voltage is really low while hooked to shore power. My battery is really weak. Would this cause my lights and everything to be almost dead even on 30 Amp power?

I think the battery is the problem. Hooked up a battery powered jumper and everything seems to be working. Guess I'll have to go buy a new battery tomorrow.

Bob, you may well have a low battery, but you should try to figure out why that has happened. From your description of the problem, I'd suspect one or both of the (possibly hidden) 30 Amp fuses in the converter have blown. If so, the battery will NOT receive any recharge power.

I have a thread on finding and replacing those 30 Amp fuses in an Elixir converter here: https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f28...d-repair-6454/

They blow rather easily, if you have the converter running while you put a heavy load on the electrical system, such as raising the top, lifting the hitch connection while the trailer is coupled to the truck, etc.

Low voltage

It is a must to carry extra fuses of several sizes that are for the HiLo. Cheap insurance. One time we just had our home furnice tuned up. Later that night it quit working. The tech came out the next day at 8AM. Turns out a fuse was in the furnice and it had blown. He was going to take out a fuse from his truck dash. DH to the rescue with his ample supply of truck fuses. Good many years later. We also have extra hitch pins in the glove compartment. A friend of ours noticed his towed car was going sideways because he had lost the hitch pin. His wife had to drive the car. Always good to carry spares.

Thanks, it did turn out to be a blown 30 Amp fuse. It is working great now.
