Refrigerator door lock for rough roads
 

My refrigerator door would once in awhile pop open on rough roads , you wouldn't know till you stopped to set up. We boondock a lot so we see more rough roads then most. Did not like the bungee idea , so here is what I did. Drilled small hole through top plate into door , made a small L shaped pin that I insert into hole while traveling. I have a small rubber plug I put into the hole in the door when pin not in use, so as to not compromise any insulation factors of the door. Minimal as it might be.

Nice work Tom. I went the bungee route because our door was ALWAYS coming open. I'll have to see if I could follow your lead on our door. Our refrigerator is not the same, so it might not work.

On my first RV I had a refrigerator that did not lend itself to using a pin as suggested by Tom. Instead, I used one of these patio door/sliding door latches. They are available at places like Ace Hardware:

The previous owner of my HiLo glued a strip of Velcro across the top of the door opening of the fridge which so far has worked well.

That door ain't opening for sure now while you're on the road.

Our dometic frig didn't work from the get-go. We replaced with a small frig that runs on electricity.

That door opened on our first trip out. I removed the swivel door lock on the old dometic and screwed it into the top of the cabinet facing downward. I drilled a small hole on the top of the door of the new frig and glued the pin nub (not sure what to call it) into that hole so it sticks up.

When we go on the road, I turn the swivel door lock so it closes over the pin nub and this secures the door closed.
