scared to proceed-suggestions please
 

Decided to get a couple windows re-sealed before winter and started to remove screws on large kitchen/escape assembly. So far- along bottom I've had five screws "twist off" not far from head - even after slowing down and removing them more slowly. Don't know if it is a moisture issue or that who ever installed them over torqued them. At any rate- before I continue- any suggestions on how to remedy this when I re-install? Just drill them out? try to extract whats left ( i hope not- what a pain on little wood screws)? I don't want to remove window and not be able to get it back in for a couple of days without a plan as I am not undercover. Frustrating- I had blocked the week off for getting this and some other maintenance chores down.

Rick, I suspect you'll need to drill out the broken screws and replace them with slightly larger ones (preferably stainless steel). Let's wait and hear from some of forum experts, though!

Rick, if you drill them out, I think you could fill the resulting holes with epoxy (use slow setting - high strength stuff) and then you could drill pilot holes through that for the new screws. And yes, I'd go with stainless steel ones too.

Cover the open widow area with a heavy duty garbage bag or similar plastic, and tape it securely all around with duct tape until you can get the window reinstalled.

Rick, not an expert, however, when we held a class on trailer window re-seal, I had MANY screws fail upon removal. Luckily, the Pros doing the demo showed us what to do. The screws hold the trim to the window itself. When it's out and laying on the work table, you can remove them by "screwing them in" using a small pliers of water pump pliers (Channel Locks). Like he said replace all screws with stainless. With the windows out, it's a good time for inside inspection and delam repair if required.

2000 24' Classic might of had aluminum framing but steel? You'll have greater peace of mind after the re-seal. :)

Removed a small verticle piece above the window ( not sure what it is for) and realized that wood is soft. So- there is a leak! And some rotted wood, and, Im now up to about nine screws broke off. JEEZ. Never saw it coming---a common story on this forum. Don't know how bad-and don't see anywhere obvious on the outside, yet. Hate to proceed but I haven't a choice at this point. More to come, no doubt.......

Tree. Right you were re screws. Sadly, I was right concerning the rest. I'll be starting new thread titled water damage.
