Storage compartment doors

The flexible doors held closed with one thumb latch makes me nervous. I have visions of leaving a trail of tools and black water supplies along our bumpy Nevada roads. Has anyone modified the doors so they stay securely closed? Or has this not been an issue for anyone?

Best,

We have owned our HiLo since 2001 and have never had a problem. Most heavy tools are kept in the back of our truck locked in the fiberglass cap.

I've not had a problem either. The heaviest things I've put in there are the small propane bottles and leveling pads. My black water hose is in the hollow rear bumper.

I keep a set of wrenches in the battery compartment, in front of the hydraulic cylinder.

But, I replaced all the "thumb latches" with locking latches. You can find these at places like Home Depot, Lowes or ACE.

Thank you!

Yes, my front doors have opened. I used duct tape on the road and plan on installing an additional lock. The back ones have been okay after I tightened them.

I can't believe I hadn't thought of duct tape! It even blends in with the color of the trailer apron. LOL. Thanks Vegasdave.

Duct tape is a staple for your RV. We had to use some on our last campout.

I have rubber latches on each side of every door to use while traveling. I'd post pics but can't seem to get them to upload.

I'm trying a picture again.

Clever idea, Tom! Did the latches come with your trailer or did you put them on, and, if so, where did you get them?

Jack, I wish I could take credit for the idea but they were on the trailer when I got it.I think they might be marine related because the metal pieces are stainless. The previous owner only put one rivet in each because there is only one hole so they swivel and are a pain. I'll be drilling another soon.

I'm actually doing mine now, taken apart. It's core is that bis that black insulation board, of course disintegrated, I finished one already and I put plywood in it. A lot stronger and can adjust your lock after weather stripping. Fits and works great.
