Tore out dinette

I hate travel trailer dinettes. They are too bulky and uncomfortable and too hard to set up for sleeping. So I had my husband tear the one out of our 1994 Funlite. It is now a sectional, with storage under the long side that is great for shoes and thin things. We can pull it out now to make it into a bed. I feel like there is much more space in the camper now. If I want a table I have a little tv table I can use and stash away when I'm done. More pics to come. We are not done. It's still ugly, but I can see what it can be! 😜

I think removing the table opened up the camper. Now people can relax on the two sofas in the camper and can move around more freely. We are not done and I look forward to any comments or suggestions to improve our improvements!

Nice looking mod. Interested in seeing the rest as you continue.

Nice! I was thinking of doing the same thing. Does your slide out have fold down legs? Did you have to modify your existing cushions? Great job!

I prefer to have the table, however that being said it appears to be a very good job. Looks great. Yeah I think you're correct the more things you take out the more the campers open up. Lol.

Wish I was as handy with carpentry.

Looks good. Do he modify the shower area on your 94 funlite? I am in the process of tearing out the celling and upper walls on out newly acquired 94 funlite.

That's an awesome mod, I want to do something like that except but a wheel chock right in open area. Squeeze my bike in.

Wannafishmore 04-09-2016 06:34 PM

Yes. The shower was too tight. So I had him pull out the sink. I took it out on a test run and that sink was more than a nuisance than it was worth. The shower pan is still there so we can still use it for sponge baths. It had a couple cracks in it, so he had to fix it with a fiberglass repair kit. The toilet had a leak, so after I ordered the part online, he pulled it out and fixed it too. Good as new.

No the legs are part of the frame. You can see in one of the pics how we can lift up the base to store things under the seat. The wheel sits under that area, so the space is tight. But there is still some storage space. The cushions fit perfectly when the base is pulled out too.

We tore out the dinette in ours, too. We cut the table in half, used it to make a countertop under the window, and built a shelf below for the microwave and coffee pot and whatnot.

It took a short afternoon, and we did it with scrap lumber.

Maybe we'll post a pic if we ever remember to take one.

Best decision ever. Seriously.

Zg, we decided after the test trip to remove the two drawers under the stove so we could have the microwave there. My model did not have an oven/stove combination but three large drawers. The microwave is small, but it took up too much of the valuable counter space. It fits perfectly in that space. We still have the table, I just don't have the heart to cut it up. Lol! :)

I would love to see pics of your mod. Always trying to get new ideas for the Hilo. I am taking it out for two months in June and July to travel California and the northwestern states. So any space saving ideas are appreciated!

We're in the same neighborhood, relatively speaking (we're in the Cypress area). I'll get some photos up next time we go up to our place.

It took some deliberation to decide to cut our table, but the angular corners make a great little bar that we don't deadleg ourselves on every time we walk around.

You mod looks great, by the way.
