Default Two-Part Door And The Wind?

I love everything about our Hi-Lo BUT the door! We have recently had high winds, gusts up to 35 mph and trying to get in and out has been challenging. I have two larger dogs that I I have hold the door open for and one needs a little extra help requiring that I bend down some which means most of my upper body isn't holding the top of the door, sometimes I just have to duck quickly and let the upper half slam. Either I let it slam or it whacks me in the head.

The other issue is that when the outer door is latched open, it is difficult to get inside without the screen door reattaching itself outside, but I am thinking that I could add some kind of extension to the handle so I don't have to go back outside, unhook the screen part of the door and come back inside.

Thanks for any thoughts/advice.
