Need information

Hi all,
I am new to the forum. Have 1985 HiLO inherited from relative. Stuck in up position . Husband did all the trouble shooting we could find. Need an owners manual. Can’t find name. Only HI-LO. Model 1985 R.

Hi and welcome.

The top is probably binding on the safety bar. Try raising the top off the bar before you pull the release lanyard.

I suspect these terms may not mean anything to you, so look through the forum to familiarize yourself with the features of HiLos and you may have success. Your problem description was sort of vague, let us know what you have tried to get it to lower.

I don't think we have that year's manual in the library, but here's a link to the 1983 model Owner's Manual: https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f49...o-manual-6838/

HiLo publishes a "generic" manual for all models each model year, and there are very few (sometimes NO changes between model years). I suspect the 1983 manual will cover your trailer and might help answer your questions.

You can also try to contact J&R HiLo Repair in Ohio. They may be able to answer any questions you might have. Here's a link to their webpage: Home - JR REPAIR

Struck in up position

Make sure you have a fully charged battery. Pull the red loop and have the toggle switch in the up position for a few seconds. Then the top should come down. Have DH crawl under with you working the switch so he can see if their is binding. Check out the operational videos in the library. Let us know if you need further help.

If all else fails have someone pull the safety release and slowly open the pressure release valve on the hydraulic pump. Slowly! Just let it come down easy till the top rests on the outriggers. If the safety release wont pull easily then you will have to have a full battery and put the top up completely, then pull the release and let the top down, either by the switch or release valve.

This may be belaboring the obvious, but does the safety bar cable or lanyard move about an inch or so when you pull on it? If not, the bar may not be unlocking completely.

With the southeast's relatively high humidity, if the top section has been in the raised position for some time, it's possible that the release mechanism or the bar itself could have rusted a bit and isn't moving far enough to let the top come down.
