1991 Funlite Hydraulic system bleeding

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I just replaced a hydraulic hose and I'm wondering if I should attempt to raise the top, or if I need to bleed the lines first. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome,I am sure someone will be along that can answer your question . Do a search in back posts for a discussion on hydrolic line flushing.

Hi Brian, glad to have you with us. If the hose you replaced was the clear plastic one to the reservoir, that's the return hose and there's no pressure in it at all. There would be nothing to bleed.

If the hose was a metal one from the pump to the lifting ram, then any air inside will be pushed out and sent into the return line when you raise and lower the top. So, to "bleed" the system, simply raise and lower the top a couple times. If you do this, it's possible the fluid level in your reservoir will be a bit low afterwards. It needs to be within about 1" from the top of the tank with the top DOWN. You'll need to fashion a "dipstick" out of wire or a straw (bent into an "L" shape) to check this.

If you add fluid, use Dexron II, III or IV ONLY! Do not use Dexron 5 or another type.

Hope this helps.
