Bearing check help needed
Hi . Maybe someone with more experience can help me. I need to check my wheels bearing on my HiLo 21' ,do I have to lift the top part to get the tires out?
|
"NO" but you have to watch were you place the jack. you can us the stabilizer jacks for balance and jack the torque arm to lift the tire up,
|
Someone told me, I can use the stabilizer jack to change a tire is that true?
|
NO.
stabilizer jacks are not that strong, and will arch the frame. I have an older 4 wheel 21 ft' er. I jack up the axle from the center of the leaf spring attachment point. I use a small bottle jack. DO NOT JACK UP WITH A FLOOR JACK TO AXLE CENTER...axle will bend |
When you have two axels, you do not need to use a jack to change a tire or lube your bearings. If you have a set of stackable blocks, stack them into a ramp, or make a ramp out of several short pieces of 2x8 or 2x10s. Pull the front tire up on the ramp to lift the rear tire off the ground and back the rear tire up on the ramp to lift the front tire off the ground. Much safer than using a jack, and no risk of bending the axel.

You may want to look at it on Amazon also.
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...d=INHE8YQ5Z02T That's the Trailer-Aid plus, you can also get the Trailer-Aid that has 1" less lift. Click on it on the above attached page. |
Thanks everyone, for all the information you gave me . I did it with a bottle jack .

Who can tell me good places to go with kids. I bought a 2001 HiLo 21' and I want to use it for first time but I don't know nice places the kids enjoy.

I don't know where in FL you live, but there are many state parks.
Go to a FL website for info of services available and sites in the park. As a long time camper, do your first outing closer to home for a trial run. Use the lowering list, "search". Have fun. Now is a great time of year to camp in FL.. |
Gilbert, Without a doubt Rainbow Springs SP, just north of Tampa. It was once a private CG and is one of the few State Parks with on site sewage. Has plenty of kid stuff to do, plenty to see. Fishing, swimming and rafting. Free for campers! A natural spring with 40 million gallons a day. At 72 degrees! If you can, the best spot is #43, right up front, yet no headlights coming at you from any angle. One of our favorite FL SPs. Reserve on line as early as you can. You can see what your reserving on google earth.

Thanks tree climber for the information. I will check this.

Gil, We specialize in FL state parks. East coast, just north of Orland has Blue Springs SP much the same as Rainbow. Where in FL are you? I keep records of the sites we've been to and enter comments about the campground. Even state where we'd stay if we return. Tons of state parks here and all sites can be reserved on line. FL state park booklet tells you which have campgrounds.

Tree, I'm in Gainesville fl. And I this is all new for me. I looked in Internet and find a place in Salt Springs, Ocala. And will be my first time using the RV that's why I'm looking for a place closer to my to try the unit.

Gil, What we think is a good idea when checking out a new place is go to the website you think you'd like, look at the map, choose a spot. Don't reserve yet. Google the physical address, look at the address on google maps or google earth, then you'll see whatr your site really looks like in regards to shade, dumpsters, comfort stations and dump station, etc. If you still like it, book the site. We also check out the location of the nearest wally word, and other points of interest.
We always keep food in the camper, but we generally set up camp then go to walmart for fresh produce and the foodstuff for our stay. This also allows us to check out the neighborhood. Then we proceed with our stay. We like to know about the destination before we get there- the to do things. Sure we like to fish for example, but what to do during the rain!! Tree |
