Central Texas

Hope to be owners of a 2001 20ft HILO in next couple of days. Trailer going through preinspection/repairs regarding some issues: furnace not working, lift not going up or down, and a couple of other very minor things. In my opinion, the trailer appears to be very well cared for, clean and updated. Unfortunately, the seller is selling for health reasons and seems to be willing to approve all repairs as soon as he knows the actual cost of the up/down issue. I have studied the forum regarding this up/down issue and feel comfortable on possible ways to proceed once we know pump or ram or cables or all.

Debbie and I live on Lake Belton, Texas and both of us retired for several years now. Oh, I forgot Frankie our 4lb poodle! I am retired military (Corps of Engineers and Viet Nam era helicopter pilot) and Deb is retired federal worker. She spends time with all the grand kids and I sneak in as much time as I can restoring my 1958 Corvette and cutting grass and maintaining house and fishing on the pontoon boat. Older age isn't that bad as long as you have your health.

We are very easy going and truly looking forward to stays in the HILO and hopefully meeting some of you folks somewhere. I noticed there is a club in Katy, Texas.

Thanks for replies. Sam, I know you are right about falling in love with it as I already have and we haven't picked it up yet. And, since I restore my old cars, I am used to things appearing to look or really be bad but with some effort looking like new. I cannot picture anything that I couldn't fix on this HILO if it needed it. Guess effort and money can just about fix anything. This forum has been most helpful regarding repairs. Bill

Hear is my thinking.

If you take care of it it will take care of you. TLC goes a long way!! We have been in high winds and torrential rain storms. I call my HiLo"old faithful".

I'd check out the fort Davis and big bend areas when I get a chance. Pretty country .

Do plan to check into the Big Bend area at some point. We sold our second home in Galveston about a year ago so we know, love and miss the south Texas coast. Destin/Fort Walton Beach area of Florida is on our to do travel list also. For others, New Braunsville, Texas is a great place if you like floating and great food, beer and music in the town of Gruene. By the way, I know New York has some beautiful places too. While in the Army, I was stationed at Seneca Army Depot Rhomulus which was between Geneva and Ovid. Recall the town population being around 300 folks most of which were military. Both my boys are 40 ish and still vividly remember playing in 10' deep snow around our house one winter. I can remember talking to our landlord's son there who told me "I'm going to California to become an actor". In my mind at the time, I thought "sure you are". Well, he starred as "Shooter McGavin" in the movie Happy Gilmore. Lesson I learned from this, pursue your dreams and make it happen!

Well, got call today that all parts are in and seller agreed to fix everything (correct battery, new fresh water pump and drain plug, and furnace repair). And, the "up/down" issue turned out to be "operator" error--guess switch was in wrong position. So, picking up Monday and wife, dog and I going camping in the immediate future. Consider this thread closed and will share with you all again in other forum sections as opportunities arise!
