Just aquired a 1973 Hi-Lo

I purchased a used Hi-Lo and am happy to see a forum for them! Today was a victory, I rigged the motor to run after it had ben sitting for at least 5 years. The previous owner said it didn’t work. After a new battery, switching the wires on the starter/hydraulic pump back to the correct configuration, topping off the ATF, and jerry rigging a wire to the battery. It both raises and lowers!

It has been patially stripped out and abused. No bathroom, trailer lights don’t work, plumbing has been removed, 12v circuit doesnt work, and much of it has been replaced by a 1/2 built counter top. As a bonus, it did come with a nearly complete owners manual and schematics. (Made it super easy to see how it was meant to be set up.)

The plan is to remove the couch along the back in favor for a full size bed with storage underneath. With the bunk bed and dining table there will be room to sleep 5. Add a portable toilet/bathroom. Add a sink and counter. Remove the propane heater. And upgrade the infrustucture to allow for boondocking (generator/2 6v golf cart batteries/and possibly solar).

Other plans may include some form of indoor or outdoor shower. Roof rack for small boat (sun dolphin/bass baby) and fishing reels.

Welcome tothe forum

Best of luck with all your restoration plans. We are a great group of friendly experienced HiLo owners. We love to answer question and will help out in any way we can. DH added solar to our HiLo. It is a good thing to keep the battery topped off.

I also have a 1973. I love that I can run off of 12V system or just plug in somewhere. I need to get my heater going but I don’t know where to start...any help would be great!

Heater

Thoughts on an old heater. Very dangerous to use as the internal parts could easily be rusted out. You don't want to poison any one. Many choices for propane or electric heaters.
