New to RVs and Hi-Lo
 

I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a 22ft HI-Lo. It was in amazing condition. I have it set up as a small weekend river get away.

Hi,

We live in Canada on Vancouver Island are considering buying one. With COVID we can’t come down to the States to look and/or buy one.

We had a Trail Manor for a few years, but it’s to much work to set up.

Looking forward to learning more before we invest in one.

We live in Puget Sound and have towed our 22footer across Bball ferry to Victoria and up to Port Hardy for over 20 years. Can't wait for the border to open up.

If you are leaving it at the location on the river do you lower the top during the times that you are not there and are not using it ? I have gotten the impression from various posts on this site that you definitely should never store your Hi-LO in the up position. You might want to check this out if you are not lowering it when you leave to go home.

I have left it up for now, only a couple weeks at this point. It is hooked up to electricity. Can you explain why it should be down when I leave?

When it is left up for prolonged periods of time, it leaves all the cables and pulleys under stress. If you do leave it up for more than a couple of days, or even a week, you might do as I have done. Raise the top, measure the space between the frame and the underside of the top where the rubber pads are located, (four locations) then buy a two by four at Lowes, cut four boards to these 1/4" longer than your measurements, and label their locations. When you raise the top the next time, go just slightly above the normal stop position and place the boards in their perspective location. As the top settles to its normal raised height, the two by fours will take the strain off the pulleys and cables.
If there is any danger of high winds while you are away from camper, I wouldn't suggest leaving the top up. Hope this helps.

Very interesting about putting the trailer down. What about mildew? How do you keep it dry? Living on the west coast has lots of moisture to deal with.

River setup
 

My 2004 22T set up at the river. Full power hook up, water from a 50 year old shallow well and septic tank. Sitting on a nice concrete slab. Shady and peacful watching the river roll on here in Ga.
