Hello,
I am new to this forum and have not as yet bought a trailer. I have been interested in the Hi-Lo for a long time and am thinking seriously about getting one. I have been reading posts in your forum about how much maintenence it seems to take to keep a Hi-Lo on the road. Kind of scary. I want something to have fun with not work on all the time. If someone can give me some good info on this I would greatly appreciate it. One other question. What is the smallest unit that comes with a walk around queen bed.

HiLo Trailers were well built for the most part. Many of the troubles that people have had was due to the lack of proper maintenance by previous owners. They are no different than most travel trailers, they need to have regular maintenance like making sure there are no water leaks on the roof and anywhere else. The HiLo lift system is unique to travel trailers, but with proper care and maintenance, it will work well. So if you are looking for a good used HiLo you need to check it over very carefully. You may have seen the checklist that gets posted here occasionally, it is a very good guide. I believe 27 foot models were the smallest that had walk around queen beds.

You will discover that Hi-Lo owners like to putter and improve their trailers. This would probably be things that you are considering "maintenance" in various forum threads.

Welcome to the forum. Owing a recreational vehicle is like owning a second home. The RV has everything that is contained in a house. The trailer in Florida seems like it has been recently refurbished. Do you have enough tow vehicle for this trailer.? Use the check list for any RV you are considering.

We have owned HiLo's [our third one] and 5th Wheels and there is little difference in the maintenance required by one over the other. We have never had any problems with the lift system and up until the last HiLo we bought, a 2406 T, I never had anything but normal maintenance to do on it. There was a failure, in my estimation, in the last few years of production that the company used a cheaper less durable end cap and also failed to ensure the quality of production was followed by its workers. Some of the units have experienced problems with the roof and also the end caps. There are a few on the forum who have experienced these problems and have shared in their remedial actions for the benefit of others who may experience the same problem.

When you consider the versatility of the HiLo and the savings an owner must incur insofar as the towing weight allowing for more flexibility in choosing a tow vehicle, plus the fuel savings in pulling a lower weight trailer, it more than compensates for the few exceptions that have had problems.
