winterizing my hilo

I had taken my camper to have it winterized the two years I've had it, I've found that the water was never emptied from the tanks and when it was released it smelled horrible and the smell lingers. I'm trying to winterize and I can't find when the water goes and how to winterize it myself.

Hello!

First, I'll say I love my HiLo! I purchased it three years ago but only had the opportunity to go camping three times in three years. I want to be able to camp more in the spring and look forward to being in touch with other HiLoer's.

I've let others at RV centers take care of it with regard to winterizing and getting it ready for use in the spring. I don't think the job was done properly as I found that the water wasn't ever emptied and today when I found a release for the water, it smelled horrible, I need to winterize it and I have a friend here trying to help me but I don't know where anything is, is there a simple way of doing this?

In this thread: https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f49...-youtube-1233/ which has a completed set of videos that are found in post#3, you will find this one: https://youtu.be/Q7rc99x1U6Y which is Video #36 and it covers winterizing.

Winterizing

Jack gave you the link to a great tutorial on winterizing. If you go out camping and then you know you won't be using the HiLo for several weeks I would pull the plug on the Hot water tank and drain it. On our HiLo you open an exterior door and pull the plug and let all the water drain. Two of our friends with SOB didn't drain their water and it smelled like emesis. You probably will have to flush the bad smell away with a mixture of clorox and water. I sent you a PM.

The owners manual has the procedure for flushing the fresh water tank and gives the ratio of bleach/water mix.

It’s super easy to winterize! I’m sure the video is great; it’s been a while since I viewed. Turn the bypass valves to the hot water tank; drain the hot water tank and leave plug off) before you actually start. Our Hilo had a bypass valve that made this process very easy. I remember paying $$$ the first winter we owned her then did it ourselves after that! I think our unit only needed 1 gallon, but I used 2 to ensure all drains traps etc were covered! Good luck!
