Hocky puck magnet for 81 FC

I finally worked my way under my trailer and found one of the magnets is worn out.
I have searched locally, drove over 100 miles and called around but am exhausted looking for this "exact" part. Note that this one has a mounting tab.

Do any of you know if this is still avialable? If not I will need to buy 2 new brake assemblies. I would rather spend $25 than $150.
It is a 7-1/4 " drum.

Brake parts

We always have our HiLo dealer do our brake work. Call our HiLo dealer and see if they have the part you need or know where you can get it. Mantelli trailer sales, Jay in parts or steve the service manager. (716) 625-8877. Hope this helps you.

Slider, here is the best of both worlds. I believe this is what you are after.
Electric Drum Brakes 2500 lbs Axle Trailer Brakes | etrailer.com Copy and paste this link and I believe you get new backing and the complete unit for $35.00.
We have bought things from etrailer before and never had any problems.

Jim. BINGO. I will order it on Monday. Sooooo cheap for that assembly; about the same price as the magnet alone.

Thanks,
Rick

Well, this is becoming a LOT harder than I expected.
Part came in Saturday.
Bolted in place but the shoes stuck out about 1/4", backing plate offset is incorrect. It is way different. This new one is like a baby in comparison.
For the price I got the whole assembly for the price of a magnet off fleabay so no loss on my part at all.

Disclaimer: Below is NOT something the average user should attempt.

I am in the process of voiding my warranty (haha) as I am going to harvest the magnet from the new unit and adapt it to fit the original unit.

To do this I had to cut off the mounting tab that held the original in place and I am going to weld it to the new magnet; that is to be done later this week or next.
I have already drilled out the rectangle hole in the middle of the magnet so it is round as I could not fit the square peg in the round hole. LOL

So far things seem to line up correctly so I am optimistic that this will work fine. There is a LOT of tolerance in these things so I expect no problems with this.

I will update later this week or next. I am doing a welding project in my spare time for a neighbor starting tonight and I only need this trailer to be road worthy by Easter weekend. I plan to weld this when I have my MIG fired up for my neighbors project, that way I can charge my neighbor for the time spent on welding this? ;)

Be very careful welding that on to the new magnet as the wires inside are covered with shellac coating for electrical insulation and it will melt or burn if it gets to hot causing a short.

Quite aware Pop but thanks for sharing.
I finally got back to her today and it seems AOK but I have not pulled it yet. Maybe later this week.
Welded up just fine. Weld...submerge in water...weld...submerge... Always has 4-4.1 ohms through the wires and no short to the metal so we are good.
I will report back when I hook to the truck with the wheels up and pushing on the brake controller.

I "finally" took this for a test drive over the weekend and all 4 brakes do work but only the left front was warm after my 1/2 mile drive with heavy breaking.
I raised each wheel and spun them and had a person hold the brake controller lever and only the left front had enough resistance that I could not spin the wheel. All 3 others did engage some but not like I want or expect.
Tonight I will do a final adjustment and then test again.

notanlines - Thanks for the etrailer link. Great place to $pend my RV funds.

Next up: Tap into AC low side and add a few oz of R-12. :o
