Needed: Lower Door
 

Lost my lower door and need a replacement. It is a 22 foot 2001 Hi-Lo Towlite. Door is about 20.25 inches wide, by 33 inches high.

So if you are wondering why I need the door, blame Hurricane Irma. My wife and I evacuated using the trailer. On the third day, the seals on the hydraulic cylinder failed, so I couldn't raise the top. We slept in it with the top down, but I realized, should the upper door get closed, I wouldn't be able to reach the latch. So I took the lower door off. Of course, I put it on top of the trailer to keep it safe and out of the way, and promptly forgot to secure it when we headed out again. So it is on the side of the road somewhere in Alabama. I should have the hydraulics working in a few days, then will have to improvise a door until I can find a replacement.

Steve, that is a truly sad tail! I feel very badly for you and I know how easy it would be to do. I've lost things in a similar way, but nothing as serious as what you lost.

Maybe J&R Repair would have one, or, would be able to steer you to a suitable replacement.

A lower door COULD be made as a DIY job. You just need to make it the proper thickness (doesn't have to be "foam filled" or skinned with white plastic). Add the appropriate weatherstripping, latch and hinges and you'd be done.

Steve, I agree with Jack, mine is just 1 by an foam sheet sandwiched between ply and fiberglass. On the outside you could use FRP from lowes/hd. Fire Resistant Paneling holds up very well. The constant cleaning with water, soaps and chemicals in my restaurant kitchen proved that.
We're in Bonita Springs, FL so we know about Irma, 8 days with no power! But the genny held up well and we used the Hi Lo at night. A/C'ed in the evening, opened the windows and used Fan-tastic fans, no need for A/C.

Thanks for the ideas on making one. I was hoping someone would have one available, but if not, I can probably put one together myself. Doesn't look too complicated, and the FRP is a good idea.

It's probably gonna cost ya. Midget wants $802 for the upper door. They don't list the lower. JR Repair might can help you out. Unless you can find someone parting one out.
