I propped the top half in place above the bottom...

I propped the top half in place above the bottom and disconnected all the cable to allow repair. Did not have to remove any of the skins

I think you are referring to the riser rails....

I think you are referring to the riser rails. They had approx 10 coats of paint that had to be stripped back to galvanized metal finish.
