Like I said, I was ready to replace the whole thing until I found the replacement was just as bad. In my case, I was really concerned I was going to break the lever, since it's made out of plastic.

Even something as simple as a spider web in the gas supply tube will hopelessly interfere with proper ignition or burning. I don't know what the answer to this problem is, but I'd love to find one...
