    Solar Charging in 2006 Hilo

Hello Charley and Dionne - welcome to the forum! I moved your question to a more appropriate section and used it to start a new thread, because it had no relationship to the thread you posted in. I'm having a bit of trouble understanding your question, blame it on my advanced age (84 years...

Hooking solar up to trickle charge your battery

I'm a little leery of "trickle chargers", because they don't know when to quit. They simply apply a small, steady charging current to a lead acid battery that is supposed to keep them at a full charge, but that actually overcharges them, causing the electrolyte to "boil off". To properly...

24D, 2000 model year roof material question

I've had no problems with the sidewalls or roof on my 2007 (built in 2006) 17ft Towlite. It HAS been covered either with a sunbrella cover or in a carport (or both) most of its life though, so that may have helped quite a bit. - Jack

24D, 2000 model year roof material question

Yes, I suspect the roof is aluminum. The sidewalls have a fiberglass skin. However, there WERE rubber roofs installed too, but I don't know which models or model years used those. My aluminum roof has held up perfectly. Some roofs have had galvanic corrosion pinholes in aluminum roofs where they...

24D, 2000 model year roof material question

Hi and welcome! Are you sure the 2004 models had fiberglass roofs? I thought roofs were either aluminum or rubber. I've not heard of fiberglass being used in any HiLo. I don't know what the roof is in 2000 models though. I'm sure someone here does though and they will let you know. - Jack

    Hydraulic cylinder

I suspect that might be possible, but you should lower the top a bit onto at least 4-2x4s that will support the top when the cylinder is out. Notice I said "lower", which will take the tension off the cables so that the cylinder is no longer holding the top up. So, you cut the 2x4s at least one...

    batteries required

Also, I believe LiFePO4 batteries are not prone to "blowing up" or fire as are the ordinary lithium batteries. They don't overheat when being charged like some lithium batteries have done. Still, they need a different charging algorithm than lead-acid batteries. So, your trailer converter...

    1976 17’

That's a nice bit of work, but I'm having trouble understanding how you would mount it as a "slide out". What space is it going to go into? And, would it have to stay out while you were camped (all the time)? Would it be "weatherproof"? - Jack

    batteries required

Interesting points about the DC-DC converter, Shaihulud, and you may well be right about not needing one. I was concerned because my truck (a hybrid), does not have an alternator, but charges its starting battery through it's own DC-DC converter from the High Voltage battery, and that charging...

    batteries required

Yup, you need Marine/Deep Cycle (M/DC) batteries. These are different from the starting batteries you see in the engine compartment of a vehicle. The M/DC battery is designed to withstand a steady drain over a somewhat prolonged period before being recharged. A starting battery is designed for a...

    Sway & Weight Distribution Hitches

You're most welcome. In my opinion, just pulling a trailer reduces your margin of safety quite a bit. I want everything I can get to restore some of that when I tow. And, I am not hesitant to express my opinions on this to all our fellow forum members. Safe travels! - Jack

    Sway & Weight Distribution Hitches

The HiLo design is fairly resistant to sway, so you possibly don't need sway control, however, some Weight Distributing Hitches (WDHs) incorporate sway control in their basic design without any add-ons. Mine, an Equl-I-Zer WDH does this and it is very easy to use. In my opinion, unless you are...

    Need a fridge...anyone parting out a mid 80's Hilo?

That's perfect, Tom. I misread your post about the wiring and somehow thought you used 12 or 14 gauge. I see now, that was what you replaced. :o Blame it on my fading mind at 83 years old. - Jack

    Need a fridge...anyone parting out a mid 80's Hilo?

Tom, your troubleshooting technique is superb! Good on you!. So, you've determined the problem is somewere in the control circuitry after it enters the fridge and before it reaches the heating coils. I can appreciate your frustration at not being able to get to that area with the fridge...
