Battery Cranking Amps

Hello everyone,

I have a battery question;
When we purchased our 2589 HiLo Classic (used),
it had a Group 24DC battery which didn't last too long;
So back then I replaced it with the same group size 24DC, which
by the way, with good maintenance and care lasted over 6 years.
The problem was that the 2 stores I went to recently were out of stock
of the group 24DC size battery so I had to purchase a Group 27DC.
This battery is a little bigger but fit ok in the compartment.
Being it a bigger battery it has more Cranking Amps.
We don't boondock camp, and we usually go to campgrounds
that have AC hookup.
So my question is:

Is there any benefit to have a bigger battery with more cranking amps?
The HiLo motor/pump doesn't use a lot of battery power (maybe 50 amps or so, I think...10 seconds to lift
and about the time to lower). Of course I paid a little more for this
bigger battery, but not much more though. Any comments are appreciated.

Angel - The "Cold Cranking Amps" (CCA) criteria doesn't really apply to your trailer battery. You are not "cranking" an engine, like you would be in a vehicle. This is a rating for high momentary drain on the battery at low temperatures.

However, "Reserve Capacity" (RC) is important in trailers because it tells you how long the battery can deliver power during a prolonged 25 Amp draw. The higher this number is the better - it is a rating of battery capacity.

Ideally, you should have a "Deep Cycle" battery, which is designed to better handle prolonged draw which takes the charge level lower in each use than happens when you start a vehicle with a starting battery.

Your Group 27 battery is larger and should have a larger RC rating than the old Group 24 battery. Since you camp at campgrounds with hookups, your battery is really only needed when traveling and to raise the top, you probably don't really need the capacity a Group 27 battery offers, but it doesn't hurt to have it. The larger capacity will give you longer battery use on the rare times you might boondock.
