I'm looking to purchase this weekend if the initial inspection passes. here are the pics, was told by seller its a 28B 1996, but someone thinks its larger. What is the roof material on this model and what sort of reeof sealant should I be looking for? If its good practice to seal these, I'd prefer to do it while we have this high heat/summer. ..

Buying a HiLo

Most important use the buyers check list. Have the buyer demonstrate that all the systems work. Measure the length. Could be 29ft. with the stationary bed in the back and the tipout couch. How old are the tires. When were the brakes and bearings serviced ? Any service records? Have the seller demonstrate the lowering and raising of the unit. Are the ref. heater,air conditioner,hot water tank original? Or when replaced. Bring an eight foot ladder and go up on the roof. It might be metal? Look and feel for any soft spots. A known problem is pin hole perforations that are caused by galvanic interaction with underlying nails and screws. Check for any interior rusty spots in interior screws. Look inside of cupboards for water intrusion. Feel walls for soft and bulging walls. If the seller doesn't want to take the time to explain all this and or won't let you on the roof walk away. Look likes it needs some TLC on the outside. I would say you need a 3/4 truck to pull this unit. Keep us posted.

Sam has just given you EXCELLENT advice, TrexBees! Don't let your desire for a new, mobile place to stay overcome good judgement. You WILL need a Superduty class truck to pull that one, due to the tongue weight. Anything less and it will overload the tow vehicle axles.

Thanks for the advice but my Ram1500 is essentially a heavy half. The tongue weight and other sources are well within capacity. Towed it home 2.5 hours and it was like nothing. I’ve hauled fire wood loads with more concern

Things checked out well. It’s home with me. All systems functioned well, service records from the last 15 years.
My RAM 1500 pulls this like it’s not even there.

Also this 96 Bonvoyage has a cracked AC top cover on the roof. There’s a few on Amazon but I don’t know exactly which one to buy. Any advice would be helpful.
We are looking to put this thing to use this summer. Wife already has destinations picked out.

This advice may sound simple. You have to get up on your roof and look for a brand on your AC. You will also need to measure the cover. If you are lucky the former owner gave you the manuals. Possibly your AC has been replaced. The internet is your friend when looking for parts. I have had good luck getting some parts from PPL Motor homes in Texas. I shop for the best price. ETrailer is another good place for parts. Coat the new plastic cover with 303 Protectant. When not being used i cover it with a soft cover. Another good purchase. Good to hear from you. Keep the questions coming. Another piece of advice. Pull your blinds or shades up for travel. In the down position they get"chewed up." Wish some one had told us this. You need to weigh your HiLo loaded up for camping. See if your weights are okay for your truck.
