This has probably been addressed before but as I was searching the web looking for some Hi Lo information, I ran across this recall notice for some 2007/2008 Hi Lo Trailers regarding the lift system. Just in case we have forum members that are unaware, here are the units to which the recall pertained:

Build Years/Makes/Models:
2007 - 2008 HI-LO 24' TOW LITE
2007 - 2008 HI-LO 25' CLASSIC
2007 - 2008 HI-LO 27' TOW LITE
2007 - 2008 HI-LO 28' CLASSIC

According to the notice there were 118 units that were involved in this notice:

HI-LO TRAILER CO. Recall for 2007 HI-LO 27' TOW LITE EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL:WINCH -Reported 2007-12-20

Probably old news but just in case. I don't know what an owner's recourse might be since the factory has closed but it is best to be aware.

Jerry,I wasn't aware of this. I printed this out for future reference in case anyone buys a used unit. I suppose your only recource would be to contact carefree of colorado and see if they would give you the part and or pay for a dealer to repair.

This doesn't seem to fit HiLo trailers unless they are referring to the the winch motors on the tip outs. The lift systems definitely don't use winches. They talk about folding campers, such as popups.

Rich, I thought that was an unusual way of wording it but when you get right down to it, how else would you describe the lift system in terms the lay person would understand if not as a winch system? The description clearly points to the lift system of Hi Lo 2007 & 2008 models:

HI-LO TRAILER CO. Recall for 2007-2008 HI-LO 27' TOW LITE EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL:WINCH -Reported 2007-12-20

ON CERTAIN FOLDING CAMPING TRAILERS (FCT) EQUIPPED WITH A POWER WINCH UNIT, MODEL P55000, BUILT BY CAREFREE OF COLORADO, AN INCORRECT MATERIAL WAS USED IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE CABLE SHAFTS ON SOME OF THESE POWER WINCH UNITS. UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES WHILE THE FOLDING CAMPING TRAILER TOP IS BEING LIFTED, IF THE WINCH IS PLACED INTO A STALL CONDITION, THE CABLE SHAFT MAY BREAK PRIOR TO THE FUSE OR CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPING.

That is a strange way of describing it and I also question the Carefree winch which wasn't a part of the lift system. I will ask my dealer friend to see what he knows about it. Somehow I think it may be to do with the tipout winch.

I hope you have things fastened down there. It's going to be a rough couple of days ahead. Hopefully this end of the state will be better. Stay safe!

Yea, we could be in for a couple of nasty days and nights. Most of the schools in this area have already canceled classes for the next 2 days. I'm mostly worried about the Susquehanna flooding like it did last year. My sisters and I still own our parents' home and we had 4' of water on the first floor. If it floods this time, if it's up to me it will get torn down and the land sold for whatever we can get for it. Hopefully we won't have a problem with the river since it is pretty low and they are forecasting 2 to 4 inches of rain in this area and 1 to 2 inches in the northern tier. Thankfully my sisters and I aren't in a flood area, but I know how people feel that are in a flood area. Been there done the cleanup. Not fun.

I asked my dealer friend about the recall and he knew nothing about it. He said that he had sold a number of those models when new. He also said that HiLo was not very good at putting the word out to its dealers either. The next time he is talking to Jim at J&R Repair he will try to remember to ask him about it. They used to do the warranty repairs.
