Crack in Front Window Cover
 

Have a crack in the front window cover on a 2005 170T. Lakeland RV in Milton, WI resorted to tape that looks extremely tacky :-(. Any better ways to fix the crack?

Will probably need to use a dealer as I'm not a handy person. Live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area of Minnesota so if anyone on this forum is from that area please advise of a good place as I am a newbie RVer.

Stop drill the end of the crack with a small (1/16" or 3/32" drill bit) and then you can fill the crack with something like Lexel caulk (which is sold at ACE hardware).

You'll need to learn how to do small repairs on your trailer, because the need will arise often, and often when you are away from any place that can do them for you. So, this is your chance to BECOME a "handy person".

LIVING just a short ways from Milton Wi. Your hi-lo is at one of the largest dealer in the state. They have everything to fix it on site. I know them and they do really great work... Like Jack said you had better become "handy"

As I said, Lakeland's response was to apply a tape over the crack, which is unacceptable. And they refused to replace the part or repair it, except for the tape.

When I went to pick it up in April, they were supposed to have filled the tanks; also NOT done. So that's why am seeking advice from folks who care about the Hi Lo as Lakeland DOES NOT!

Minor problem here, but the correct fix in my opinion is to use much the same aluminum thickness as the hinge. my cracks were at the rivets and corners (two upper corners).
I removed the cover, shaped the alum strip around the corners allowing for ONE hinge rivet to catch my strip, drilled a hole for that rivet and installed it. Then using several clamps, I ran a bead of Lexel caulk under the strip, drilled a hole for each 1/4" rivet and installed rivets until the end.
Now the minor problem, your skill sets. As said above, you may need to improve those simple skills, because maintenance on ANY camper is on going, or will be expensive if you rely on a shop to do the work. Self satisfaction goes a long way and you may not be ANYWHERE near a repair facility. The forum is great for helping you solve a problem, but unfortunately can't do it for you.

Another ex-dealer is Jerry's in Madison, WI. They were a huge dealer. However, not much help if you are in Minneapolis. Another source, and maybe better, would be a decent body repair or boat shop in your area. They are used to dealing with plastic repairs (fiberglass is technically considered a plastic). Even a shop that deals with truck caps might be good. If they are too expensive they might be helpful in giving you advice on how to do the repair yourself.
