My a/c cord is also in the back bedroom. I unplug it each time before we lower the top, but I just let the cord dangle. Where the cord comes out from the bottom of the overhead cabinet, it is far enough away from the side wall. I don't worry about it getting caught between the upper and lower wall while lowering. Been doing it this way since 2001.
