Default 1974 in SC

We just brought our 1974 home today. We've got our work cut out for us We're excited though. We got it home and had lights and ac for 15 seconds....then We didn't. Worried it all went to crap just then, our luck we figured. Nope, it just came unplugged from outlet. Hehe!
I'll be doing some digging around here for issues we have. Our 1st though is the fact that a po had made it so the Hilo stayed in the hi position. Not sure its quite safe. I was scared the whole top half was just going to catch wind and just fly off, Like peeling the lid off a can. :/ We towed it home the 20 miles though just fine...or at least it made it home. Eeek!

Welcome Gina there are a lot of good helpful solutions here, and a wealth of knowledge from the members. All questions will be answered to the best of there/our ability.

Nice looking on the outside.

Thanks, the outside is good. Just needs a repaint, the roof done, sealed and caulked, and unearthing of the painted over Hi lo logo on the back. Now the inside needs a little help, but I've got some Reno plans

Gina, you indicate that the model year is 1974. If you are lacking a manual for your 1974 Hi-Lo, look in this forum's library section; I note that there is a manual in the library for model year 1977 which is close enough for your 1974 model year. These campers did not change much within a two to three year period. By the way, we are from Summerville, SC. How nice to have another Hi-Lo in SC. There are not many in this state.

This one might work as well.

Never tow in up position. It puts undue wear on the lift system like stretching cables and pulling pulleys off.

Thank for the direction, I looked and couldn't find a 74 manual so figured they'd be close. I didn't want to tow upright, but a previous owner bolted on square steal beams at the front and back that support the top and little metal strippers on each slide to keep it upright. I don't know if the pulleys, cables or anything works to lower or raise on it's own and figured we'd just get it home. Other owner used it as a fulltime upright and, made the modifications.

Looks easy enough to remove.

GinaD welcome to Hi Lo ownership. I'm from Mt. Pleasant SC. Only know of myself and two other Hi Lo owners in SC. What part are you from?
God Bless

I'm in Florence. And thanks all. We're currently remodeling a triplex, so campers taking a back seat....but I did get out there and do a little scrubbing on it today. We're not super duper handy, but we're getting there. One step at a time.
