Plywood trim is good. You could stain it and then use Polyurethane. Anyway homemade trim is the best.

Sam, marine vinyl is material that boat seats and upholstery are covered with. It can be bought by the yard.

Oh no, small leak around the Kitchen window, can't be the butyl caulk, must be the top window flap which is about an inch to short.

Thought I would paint the ceiling today. I had a gallon of Kool Seal left and painted the 1/8 lauan with it. Was going to buy paneling but couldn't find any plain white with a vinyl coating.

Your $1.00 project is coming along nicely. Rain can be a good thing because it will show where you need to caulk more.

Built a rack to raise the new ceiling panels into position and hold them till the glue drys.

Sam, don't know if you're talking to me, but if you are I used 4 oz of gorilla glue and 2 tubes of heavy duty liquid nails per panel and leaving each sheet braced for about 20 hours, and thanks for the compliment if it was meant for me

I also found my leak in the kitchen window, my kitchen window is also the 2nd escape from my camper and the seals are bad around the part that opens. I probably shouldn't have done this but I sealed the top and sides of the gap with caulking.

Garyk 52,If you are asking for an opinion on the escape window I would advise you to use weather stripping instead of caulking the window shut. Somewhere in my 1990 restoration story I showed what we did/used to stop the leak at our escape window. Just want you to have a proper means of escape.

I agree I'm not real happy with caulking the window, but right now I don't have the time to mess with the weatherstripping and it was leaking all over the new paneling. Another thing I think, that is a stupid place for the escape window, have to climb up on the kitchen cabinet to be able to get out. I think the dining area window across from the kitchen window would have been a better spot. Could climb on the seats and climb out easier.

My Brother in law and myself spent all week putting the ceiling up (1 sheet a day) and today hung the cabinets.

Looks very good and it seems like you are on the home stretch. We felt good when we were installing the cabinents as the end of our restoration was in sight. You are right about the escape window,our is located in the window at the dinette. The other one is in the ceiling above the couch /bed. Maybe the escape windows are in different places depending on the length of the trailer.

The escape window is on that side because if the Hi-Lo was flipped on the door side in a storm, there would be no way to get out.

If it flips on its side there's no way I'm getting out anyway. Just barely able to reach 7 1/2' let alone pull myself up.

This will be the last set of photos that I post showing the inside of my rebuild. I'm at the end of finishing the inside trim. The only thing left to do is hang the curtains. The trim you see, I made by ripping, planing, routing red oak 2 x 10 rough cut planks that were given to me by a friend who was moving to Virginia. The table was made from an oak skid that I tore apart and ripped and planed to size. The bathroom walls I have not built yet. I have some ideas for building solid walls, but that will be for another thread when I start them. This has been an experience, seemed overwhelming at first, but taking one step at a time it all came together and doesn't look half bad for a wood butcher like myself.

Garyk52, I don't think their is a wonderful word to describe the absolutely,fantastic job that you did. No way would I call you an amateur!!!! I do quite a bit of furniture refinishing and really appreciate all things wood. Love the reclaimed red oak. We did a kitchen build for my daughters therapeutic horseback riding program and used wood we found in the old barn for trim. You can come and work on my HiLo anyday!!!! If we have to lay a new rubber roof and rebuild the sheeting and inside ceiling I will be asking for advice/direction. Way way better than when it came from the factory. Built with love. Really enjoyed the pictures.
