I am bummed. I just found out that my new roof is leaking. I coated it, the whole thing with fiberized asphalt 2 coats. new 1/4 inch plywood inside, and it is leaking in behind the awning bracket, to the inside, along the edge. I even put several new bolts in that. I tightened them up more yesterday, but evidently to no avail. I even caulked the washers b4 I put them in. about a week ago I ran a bead of caulk along the top edge of it then it rained. I had caulking all down the side the next day. lol
look at the last pic right up there, you can see it. I saw it yesterday tho it want as bad as today. looks like plastic wet or dry roof cement time now. its been pouring all day tho too. man I am bumming.

Maybe if you loosen the mounting bracket and then squeeze in Lexel or even but Butyl behind it, it would fill any entry point and make it watertight.

I can't imagine your leak is huge, so if you stop it, you won't have any damage.

what happened is when I replaced the bad rusted bolts I broke the seal it had. I was in the process of doing all of them and I forget what happened but didn't.
yeah Jack every bolt I take out takes me half hour. I wasn't trying to save them or anything. it was jacked up and I didn't have a ladder and I didn't want to jack it down to do that Idk why I did what I did ,and how I did it lol.
they are so rusted they been breaking off. I wound up hand grinding quite a few. some wont even turn but yeah I will try that. where can you buy that butyl tape I looked for it round here once b4. I looked at carter lumber. does lowes or home depot have it? also what is lexel and where do ya get that at? can I use it in the rain? oh yeah know I remember I replaced that whole 1x4 header above the door and part of the 1x4 across the top half way back.
thanks I am/have been in the process of getting the rust off that and painting it and haven't gotten to it yet.

Lexel is available online and at ACE hardware. Butyl tape is available a Camping World and other sources online.

Sorry, I know it seems you fall back two steps for every one you advance. Keep at it, you'll get there!

I have an ace hard ware right across the street here in Edinburg, and Kamper Care is right up the road on st.rt.14 about 10 minutes from me. ok thanks. you did mean do this from outside right? not inside? I haven't been used to have to buy anything for it LMAO. w/o generator, I still have under $300.00 in it. like I said dumpsters, people's curbside trash, and curb alerts, and free stuff adds to pick up stuff on CL and adds looking for free stuff on Craig's List have paid off big time for me. I got a stack over 3 ft. high of that ceiling carpet 2'x2' brand new at the curb on trash day. my countertops were each .25 cents. oh yeah at habitat for humanity, it's called Restore here. contractors donate unused materials for to build new homes, and low income housing, and low income people. all my j channel for the ceiling was $3.00. I got two 8 foot 1x4's for .50 cents. those 12v halogen and led bulbs were .25 cents each I paid like $3.50 for 14 of them, but I got many more after that. I wound up with like 40 sockets for the mr16 halogen and led bulbs and gu3.5's for 8 bucks on amazon, they double shipped cause I complained.. lol ;0 I GOT THAT HOLDING TANK ON THE FRONT, IT'S LIKE 35 GAL or more. FOR 13 BUCKS, AND a THETFORD AQUA FLUSH iv TOILET I am gonna t off of my pump.. sorry, that originally could be ordered with that camper in 1964 called a marine toilet, I paid 13 bucks for it, and a 40 some gallon blue holding tank for 13 bucks. it is going to be my black water tank for the toilet. it was 40.00 for all 3. they are each around $100.00 new.
I am putting the toilet up front in the same place they put them in 1964 when you ordered it. under the front seat storage comp nearest the door. I just don't want to sleep there lmao. on those 3 seats a /solar/battery box at 1 end and a toilet at the other. either blow up or stop breathing lmao. I still have the original hammock that goes above those front seats/storage bins. I have the original table, did have all the original cushions also but had to put them in my old predator to sell it. and all the cupboards, cept for my new 1/sink/back seats/tiling are original too. tiling is being replaced with that old artificial vinyl wood look. oh yeah a $10.00 sanyo fridge to replace the ice box and a fre window ac unit.

Yes, I'd try to apply the caulk/Buytl between the bracket and the outside wall of the trailer. That way, it should be forced into any openings, including the screw holes when you tighten things back up. Then, if the leak is due to the bracket, I'd also caulk around the outer edge of the bracket with Lexel.

You MAY have another leak though. Check the entire area carefully. Look at ALL seams.

can I use that stuff if its wet and raining outside? yeah I was also thinking maybe edge of roof also I doubt that tho. I put that on real heavy along there. also at an angle from the top. I haven't looked out to c if its raining yet. I double and triple coated most the seams. I don't know but I swear by that fiberized asphalt, used it on my mobile home b4. I think its way better than the fiberized aluminum coating. I think that kool white is worthless junk nothing but paint. thanks jack we'll see what happens. wish I felt better tho. yeah 37 degrees and pouring rain today. least it was 55 yesterday and intermittent rain . darn that sucks.

Default here's what i used

it's the asphalt roof fiberized asphalt /GLUE CEMENT. I did the whole awning rail on the outside, from edge of roof, I feathered it down over the lip of the awning rail, I oozed it/ double packed it in there.
it was 37 degrees today. I have used the plastic stuff b4. this stuff says you can even put it on in snow down to 15 degrees! I filled the whole rail all the way up and feathered it down the lip of the railing. also did top 1/2 inch of edge of roof. all the way down the whole side of camper.
I used 1/2 can of it. I bet it don't leak now, no more. lol I did find some cracks along outer edge of roof, where I coated it too. I did bolts and all outside. my shoulders feel like they are gonna fall off tho.

Default here's what did yesterday and alot today!

it was still soft today tho and I imagine it will be for some time need lotsa dry days lol it also was leaking by the place that's buckled it was like that b4 when I found it. I didn't want to open another can of worms tho. I think that's fixed also. I got a lot done today also tho. I got my 120ac ran to the variac switch. putting my alarm system in tomorrow. my horn makes like 8 different sounds and I am putting on off switch in hidden outside, with 2 magnetic door switches on it. putting siren under the camper, near middle of frame so it can't be cut. got a lot finished today. it was nice here like 60.

well camo camper needs camo curtains, right? velcroed them on, and super glued the Velcro. not done yet. tho lol see the top of my 4 legged picnic table? it will double behind the water tanks as s stone protector. putting it on when it is jacked down with j hooks on top and just little holders on the bottom. and it sits in front of the woods too looks like the reflection in the windows. :. lol still have some silver paint to remove yet tho too. from last summer. got much done past 2 days but leg, and shoulders, body , knee are killing me. I also found brackets for the front hammock, it holds the pipes. then doubles as a hanger rack for clothes when not in use. there are 2 of them. I have to have a new hammock made from canvas or nylon material. it's like a big wide curtain that slides over the 2 pipes. then when you aren't using it you have 2 /6 foot wardrobe pipes to hang yer clothes on. above. the front benches. it's pretty cool.

jack I was going to try to do what you said with the bracket. the thing is changing that tire I messed up both of my shoulders they both twisted on me bad.
the radiation treatments and back and neck surgeries have left my arms very weak. I could barely hold my arms up to get done what I did. I got into a fight yrs. ago with a gas powered post hole digger and had to have surgery on right shoulder and get injections in there for yrs.
also all the rest of those bolts are so rusted that would have meant getting my hand grinder out in the rain. also last time all the bolts kept turning on the outside it was a royal treat just replacing the 6-8 bolts I did when I fixed the header. the header is brand new from rear to about foot past the door. so that I will have to do later if it is still bad. it is probably what I am going to wind up having to do.

thank you so much for saying that. I don't have much family or friends to tell me anything. my sister knows nothing about the things I do to it, and could care less. I do have a cuz, and a good lady friend from hs, and like 2 others, I can share with. thanks again. it made me feel good. nice to meet you.

Mike, it's looking great!

What are you going to have to occupy your time when you get finished with it?

Hi Jack, I think that that camper may possibly be a never ending project. I will most definitely be working on it while I am camping anyways lol.
either that or try to save up like $250 or so and start buying older pop ups and reselling them is a possibility. there is money in doing that also I have been looking into it. quite a bit. storage is my only problem. I work on mine almost everyday at the storage lot and I have 2 small 5x8 units. I changed 1 yesterday for all camper related stuff and the other is household junk collection. lol thanks for the compliment! how have you been feeling? how's that hernia holding out? mike

Boy am I sore today!!!
LOL that's good news. boy Jack I wished I would have never painted that sink! it was white. I preferred it black but its chipped up as I said b4. would urethane stop it from chipping after I repaint it? if not I may just get it sand blasted or try to find another SS one that size. i'm getting leg on and all getting ready to go do some work. like I said in my mind I still have so much more to do to it. I still have lots of outside work to do also.
I do have a lot of detailing left to get done things are kinda just ruffed in right now. like trimming the curtains even. I want to get 2 shower rods for front and back windows also so I can have a backing to the camo so you cant see in and it will block the light. prolly go with black shower curtains behind it.

Mike, I think sinks are "porcelain" coated. And, when I wanted to have a porcelain covered thing refinished about 20 years ago, I found there was no way to do it that way. I had to settle for a professional paint job, and I doubt it would be anywhere near as durable as porcelain.

I suspect you're going to have to keep your eyes out for a different sink at Habitat, if you want something better than what you've got.
